Key terms used in Grove documentation.
B
Base
An Ethereum Layer 2 network built by Coinbase. Grove currently operates on Base for fast, low-cost transactions.
Base Name
A human-readable name on Base network (e.g., yourname.base.eth) that resolves to a wallet address. Get one at base.org/names.
Base Wallet
A self-custody crypto wallet by Coinbase, formerly known as Coinbase Wallet. One of the wallets supported by Grove.
BaseScan
The block explorer for Base network. View transactions at basescan.org.
Brave Wallet
A browser-native crypto wallet built into Brave. One of the wallets supported by Grove.
C
Chrome Extension
The Grove browser extension that enables tipping creators directly on 𝕏. More platforms coming soon. Installation instructions.
Coinbase
A cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company. Grove uses Coinbase Server Wallets for custodial tipping balances.
Custodial Wallet
A wallet where a third party (Grove, via Coinbase) holds funds on your behalf. Grove uses custodial wallets for tipper balances to enable fast, gas-free tips.
E
Earner
Someone who receives tips through Grove by displaying their wallet address publicly.
ENS (Ethereum Name Service)
A naming system that maps human-readable names (like yourname.eth) to Ethereum addresses. Get one at ens.domains.
EVM Address
A hexadecimal wallet address on Ethereum-compatible networks. Format: 0x followed by 40 characters.
Exodus
A multi-chain crypto wallet available on desktop and mobile. Exodus is one of the wallets supported by Grove.
F
Facilitator
A server that processes x402 payments on behalf of users. When you send a tip through Grove, a facilitator handles the payment routing and settlement. Facilitators cover gas costs and ensure tips reach earners quickly.

Gas
Transaction fees on blockchain networks. Grove's custodial system handles gas for tips.
Grove Wallet
The custodial tipping wallet you fund with USDC. Powered by Coinbase. Maximum balance is $20.
L
Leaderboard
Public rankings showing top tippers, top earners, and recent tips. View at app.grove.city/leaderboard. Learn more.
Ledger
A hardware wallet manufacturer. Ledger devices can be used with Grove via browser wallet extensions.

MetaMask
A popular browser-based crypto wallet. MetaMask is one of the wallets supported by Grove.

Non-custodial
A system where users retain full control of their private keys. Earners receive tips non-custodially — directly to their personal wallets. Also called self-custodial.
P
Phantom
A multi-chain crypto wallet supporting Ethereum, Solana, and more. Phantom is one of the wallets supported by Grove.
R
Rabby
A browser extension wallet focused on DeFi and security. Rabby is one of the wallets supported by Grove.
Rainbow
A mobile-first Ethereum wallet. Rainbow is one of the wallets supported by Grove.

Secret Key
A key that syncs your Grove account with the Chrome extension. Found in your Grove profile.

Solana
A high-performance blockchain. Solana support for Grove is coming soon.
T
Tip
A transfer of USDC from a tipper to an earner through Grove.
Tipper
Someone who funds a Grove wallet and sends tips to creators using the Chrome extension.
Trezor
A hardware wallet manufacturer. Trezor devices can be used with Grove via browser wallet extensions.
Trust Wallet
A multi-chain mobile wallet. Trust Wallet is one of the wallets supported by Grove.
U
USDC
USD Coin — a stablecoin where 1 USDC equals $1 USD. Grove uses USDC for tips.
X
x402
An open protocol for HTTP-native payments, named after the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code. Grove uses x402 to enable instant, programmable tips. Learn more at x402.org.
